From food truck to a corner cafe!
August 23, 2013Perfect place for candy lovers
September 14, 2013I’ve been living in Queens for the past 4 years and a half and I’ve never been to this part of the borough. Last Saturday, I went on an adventure to Long Island City, probably the best place in Queens to get amazing views of the city.
I took the E train to Court Square and walked all the way to Gantry Plaza State Park, located in 47th road and Central Blvd. This park is an oasis surrounded by brand new residential buildings with stunning views of Midtown East. The park is unique, it has gardens, a fountain and restored gantries as center pieces. You can enjoy a stroll along the park, take a seat on their cool benches or have a picnic while overlooking the skyline.
The park is also kids and pets friendly; it has a playground for kids, and pets are allowed with leashes and can even go play in the dog run (48th Ave. and Vernon Blvd.). There are recreational facilities such as basketball courts, handball courts and fishing pier.
You can go for a nice dinner at any of the restaurants in the area. I actually went to Blend LIC, a Latin American restaurant just a couple of blocks from the park. Food and service were good, portions were reasonable, as well as prices, and their sangria was delicious! They will be opening a new spot by the water, so I’m definitely going back to check that one out.
So now you know what to do on a weekend that you have no plans. Take advantage of the nice weather and visit this place. If you are coming from other parts of the big apple, take the E or M to 23st -Ely Av or the 7 or G to Court Square. I’m sure you will have an amazing time, oh! don’t forget to bring your camera, this place is a hot spot for photo shoots!
Have fun!
