My special day!

Why I love October?

October 2, 2013

October is finally here, yes! my favorite month of the year. You may be wondering why it’s my favorite month and there are multiple reasons why. This month brings officially a new season, fall. Fall happens to be also my favorite season of the year and in October, fall is in full effect. Long sleeves, boots, hot chocolate, pumpkin tea, desserts, dry & orange tree leaves in the sideways, long walks in the city without feeling too hot or too cold, and tons of cuddling time at home while watching a good movie.

But, that’s not the only reason why I love October. October is my birthday month. So basically that’s the main reason why I love this month. To me, my birthday is a very special day. I know people who actually doesn’t like to celebrate their birthdays, but me, I embrace it and welcome every new year of life with arms wide open.

I believe I find my birthday so special because to begin with, my birthday lands on a national holiday in Peru. Not because I was born (obviously)! We celebrate the anniversary of the Battle of Angamos and the creation of the Peruvian Navy. My mom actually told me the other day, that she chose to give birth on that day because she wanted me to enjoy the perks of my birthday landing on a holiday.

I guess, I kind of ruined my mom’s plans since I now live in New York and my birthday does not land on a national holiday here. However, I make sure to kick off a new year of life the best as possible. How could I not? I have many memories of amazing birthday parties since I was a kid. I can’t complaint, my parents did an amazing job of making me feel extra special every October 8th. That’s probably why, I just automatically get excited when October comes.

I celebrate my birthday to the fullest, I make plans before, on the actual day and after (especially if it lands on a weekday like this year). I make sure I get to spend it with my loved ones, family and friends. Although sometimes I get really sad and nostalgic because I’m so far away from my family, I give myself the chance to do what I love; eat at my favorite restaurant, give myself a nice present, look fabulous, dance the night away and toast for the new 365 days that left and for the new 365 that are coming.

I firmly believe everyone should celebrate their birthday as it was New Year’s Eve, in fact, your birthday it’s your “New Year”. An opportunity to look back and analyze the year that left; the things you accomplished, the mistakes you made, risks you took, joys you had and lessons you learned. It’s a good chance for you to look at the future; a new year that comes for you, make new goals, do things you wanted to do, stop doing things that are not causing you happiness, get rid of unnecessary drama, see people you haven’t seen and meet places you haven’t been. Further most, it’s a the perfect timing for feeling blessed of adding one more year to your lifespan!

So now that you know why October is my favorite month, cheer up and join me in this celebration. Put a smile in your face and say: HELLO OCTOBER!
