Working out with a view
March 21, 201340 days & 40 nights without alcohol
April 5, 2013My last post was very health conscious but I also mentioned that sometimes I treat myself with a delicious dessert. I call my indulgence days “cheat days” because I’m cheating my diet with a 400+ calories treat. The idea is not to deprive myself from visiting the best food spots in NY and be able to enjoy their mouth-watering delicacies.
I love to eat, and I think I have made that statement multiple times in various posts. For that reason, I couldn’t help myself and I had 2 cheat days this week. On Wednesday night I paid a visit to my favorite ice cream place located in the East Village in Manhattan. It’s a little bright place surrounded townhouses in 10th street and 3rd avenue. In Sundaes & Cones you will literally be in Ice Cream paradise (as stated in their website). You will find a broad variety of ice cream flavors (even wasabi andr green tea) and cones (sugar cones and waffle cones). They also offer coffee, chocolate milkshakes, birthday cakes and even delicious waffles topped with fruit and whipped cream (YUMMM). Sundays & Cones is open everyday until late at night to satisfy your sweet tooth cravings (Fri and Sat until 11pm). The space is welcoming and the employees are very nice. My favorite time to go is when the weather is nice so I can read a magazine while seating in one of their outside benches.
The second spot I visited this week was Martha’s Bakery. A pretty popular bakery in Queens located in Forest Hills. The ambiance is cozy and makes you feel like you are in a little cottage. Tons of dessert options and hot and cold beverages. My favorite dessert here is the red velvet cheesecake, which is pretty awesome (just like everything else in the menu). However, last night I was craving chocolate so I decided to get the Chocolate layer cake, perfectly moist and tasteful, and can easily be share between 2 people (it’s huge!). From the pastries menu, I recommend the Very Berry Napoleon and from the cake menu you will never go wrong with the Strawberry Short Cake.
So now you know two of my favorite places for dessert in NY. I have a huge list so I will continue posting more places every week so you can pay them a visit whenever you are craving something sweet!
