July 18, 2020Feeling homesick during these Fiestas Patrias and in need of going somewhere Peruvian to celebrate our 198th independence? Look no further! I have compiled a list of things taking place this week that you may want to attend.
As you may know on July 28th and 29th we celebrate Peru’s independence. Even though we are miles away from our country, the good Peruvian people in NYC are hosting several events for other Peruvians who want to join the festivities, eat away, drink Pisco or Cusquenas, and listen to some peña music.
Events:
- Thursday, July 25th: Macchu Pisco @ Phd Rooftop at the Dream Downtown. One of our favorite Pisco brands ran by two amazing Peruanas, Melanie & Liz Asher, will be hosting their yearly Fiestas Patrias tradition at one of my favorite rooftops in the city. Alongside with the party legend, Carmen Dalessio, they will be going all out for our independence day celebrations. Party starts is from 9pm-12am.
- Thursday, July 25th: Bareto @ SOB: the popular Peruvian band is performing at SOB, bringing its best mixes and songs like “Ya se ha muerto mi abuelo”. Doors open at 10pm and show starts at 11pm. You can get your tickets here.
- Sunday, July 28th: General Consulate of Peru in NYC: Our wonderful Peruvian ambassador, Marita Landaveri, is hosting an agasajo for us Peruvians on Sunday from 5:30pm -7:30pm, right after the mass at St Patricks Cathedral (4 pm). This event is FREE and it will showcase food from different Peruvian chefs, drinks and entertainment. I’m glad that our consulate is hosting an event like this because usually this type of events are private. Our new ambassador is encouraging all Peruvians from the NYC area to come out and enjoy our day. If you want to attend email [email protected] to confirm your attendance. I will be there with my sister, Chef Magaly Ponce, representing our catering company, QOYAS NYC.
- Sunday, July 28th: Don Ceviche @ Rockaway Brewing Co in LIC: our dear friend Lenin aka “Don Ceviche” will be hosting an event in Long Island City, Queens, offering ceviche causa and artisanal beers. Event starts at 1pm. Details here.
- Monday, July 29th: #PeruanaMeetUp: If you are a Peruvian Chica like me and are interested in meeting other Peruanas in the NYC area, then this is your chance. The brilliant Cindy Rodriguez (journalist, storyteller, producer and founder of Reclama), and I joint together efforts to host this event so Peruanas can get to expand their network, get to know each other, discuss potential collaborations, and HAVE FUN! The event is taking place at Pio Pio HK at 7:30pm. You must RSVP to be part of it!
- Monday, July 29th: La Cevicheria x Conjunto Criollo Show @ Rockaway Beach: Ximena and Leyla, ladies behind La Cevicheria will be hosting a party with musica criollo and a special criollo food menu at the Concession at Beach 97th St/ Rockaway Beach in Far Rockaway, Queens. Details here.
Restaurants:
Manhattan:
- Mission Ceviche UES: My good friend Jose Luis Chavez, recently extended its portfolio and now has a brand new location, Mission Ceviche restaurant in the Upper East Side. Restaurant is closed on Sunday but you can still get to enjoy his delicious food and tasty drinks the other days of this week. I encourage you to make reservations in advance!
- Panca: The west village restaurant is small but super cozy, and its food takes you back to Peru. Our friends from Panca will be hosting live music on Sunday and featuring specialty drinks and dishes. Check them out!
- Pio Pio Hells Kitchen: Living in the HK area has made me vip customer of this Pio Pio (If I could collect points I would probably have over 1k lol). Pio Pio is comfort food for me and if you are in the area you can enjoy a good “Matador Combo”, Arroz Chaufa, Lomo Saltado, Pescado a lo Macho, and much more. Also, my good friends at the bar (Christian Asca from #PandillaPisco) make amazing Pisco drinks.
Brooklyn:
- Pollo de Oro: They will be hosting a whole weekend long happy hour promotion from 11am to 9:30pm. With a live music show on Saturday 27th.
- Llama Inn: Although no promotions or specials for this weekend announced yet, their food is top notch, very creative and innovative (no your traditional Peruvian dishes). Drinks are also VERY good and their rooftop is now open for you to enjoy!
Queens:
- Lima Restaurant & Bar: Will have a weekend long celebration. On Saturday 27th from 8pm to 12am and Sunday from 5pm to 10pm will have traditional Peruvian dishes, such as, Arroz con Pato, and folklore show: marinera, caporales and more.
Hope this list helps you find a festivity that suits your Peruvian food and drinks cravings during our #FiestasPatrias!!!
See you around, Y Que viva el Peru!!!!
