Food Wednesday: A Venezuelan delicacy
April 24, 2013Eurotrip with my mother!
May 15, 2013On Monday, I was invited to visit the 2013 Red Bull Music Academy. This amazing series of music events is a remarkable initiative from the popular energy drink company, Red Bull, which offers a great opportunity to up and coming artists to breakthrough in the music industry. This year’s RBMA edition marks its 15th anniversary, and what better place to host it than New York City. Red Bull Music Academy began in the late 90s and it has previously taken place in other big cities such as London, Barcelona and Sao Paulo.
This yearly music festival that congregates singers, DJs, producers, music legends and entrepreneurs, kicked off on April 28th and ends on May 31st. During these four weeks, talented participants are being part of multiple events that will give them the chance to take their careers to the next level.
The RBMA is definitely an enriching experience that allows its participants to learn valuable knowledge from mentors and fellow “classmates” during lectures; connect with artists with diverse backgrounds and from around the globe through individual and group music sessions; and furthermost, they will be inspired by successful musicians/artists in numerous workshops.
Thousands apply to the Red Bull Music Academy but only 60 artists are chosen to be part of the two term event. We found out that the only Latina in the event happened to be Peruvian (Yes! Peruvian pride!). Her name is Alejandra Cardenas, but in the music world she is known as Ale Hop. I was very lucky to meet and chat with her at one of her studio sessions at the RBMA headquarters. If you want to know what these two Peruvian chicas chatted about, stay tuned for my next post!
The Red Bull Music Academy is “a unique symposium of music and culture” that is still going on, so if you have the chance to go to one of its 37 shows that features 236 artists, do it! To learn more about the RBMA, or find out when’s the next show, visit their official site.
