Pio Pio: Don’t go only for rotisserie chicken!
If there’s something I love and admire about Peruvian food is its variety. For this reason I love when Peruvian restaurants offer different dishes, and I love it even more when their chefs experiment with our ingredients and come up with a delicious dish.
Pio Pio is probably one of the most popular restaurants in New York. They have grown a lot since the first time they opened a little restaurant Queens. They have become a successful and well known restaurant chain and I’m glad to say that you can find multiple locations across Queens, Bronx and Manhattan.
Pio Pio is mainly known for their delicious rotisserie chicken. Obviously, you can’t go wrong when ordering “pollo a la brasa” and french fries (don’t forget the spicy green sauce). However, I want to encourage you guys to try other dishes from the menu.
I visited Pio Pio Hells Kitchen (my favorite from them all), very nice space, with great food and Pisco drinks. Do yourself a favor and try the following food from the menu:
Appetizers: You have two choices in this category, one is of them is stuffed avocado and the other one is causa de pollo. If you love avocado and shrimp go for the first option (you must try it). Avocado stuffed with shrimp salad marinated in lime and green sauce. The second option is for the mashed and seasoned yellow potatoes layered with chicken salad and avocado pieces.
Entrees: If you are hungry and you want to try one of the most popular dishes from the Coast of Peru, go for Lomo Saltado. Stir-fried steak (marinated in soy sauce and spices), onions and tomato with french fries and rice on the side.
Ceviche: Go for the nontraditional and order “Ceviche Nikkei”. A ceviche with Asian influence, one of the best ceviches I ever had. Tuna over avocado with a special sauce that is mainly based on soy sauce. To die for!!
Drinks: I love Pisco Sour (you already know that). But I highly recommend the red sangria. Sweet with tons of fruit and the right amount of alcohol. You will love it!
After reading this, you are probably hungry (sorry) so the best thing you can do is to make a reservation and pay them a visit. You will thank me later 😉
PS: Pictures where taken with my phone, I will go back soon to take better pictures with my camera
xoxo
