An NYC island worth visiting

Yesterday, after picking Tiki up from the vet, my husband and I decided to look for an outdoor place where we could grab a bite, enjoy a drink and have the company of our fur baby. In all honesty, not many places in NYC are pet friendly, unless you have a service dog. In the past we tried to go to eat at outdoor restaurants and they didn’t allow Tiki in. Although it seemed like a mission impossible task to find an option like the one we were looking for, we were lucky to find an outdoor dining gem by the Hudson River that had everything we were looking for and was dog friendly!
Ayer, después de recoger Tiki del veterinario, mi esposo y yo decidimos buscar un lugar al aire libre donde pudiéramos comer algo, disfrutar de un trago y tener la compañía de nuestra perrita Tiki. Honestamente, no muchos lugares en NYC admiten mascotas, a menos que tengas un perro de servicio. Hemos tratado de ir a comer a restaurantes al aire libre y no permitieron la entrada de Tiki. Aunque parecía una tarea a lo misión imposible para encontrar una opción como la que estábamos buscando, tuvimos la suerte de encontrar un restaurante al aire libre junto al río Hudson que tenía todo lo que estábamos buscando y, ¡era apto para perros!
City Vineyard is located at Hudson River Park’s Pier 26. To get to the restaurant, we parked near Pier 25, entered the park through that side and walked for a bit. We were there almost at sunset so the walk was very nice, with beautiful Hudson River views. City Vineyard is located right below the Pier 26 sign, so as you approach you can;t miss the sign.
City Vineyard se encuentra en el muelle 26 del Hudson River Park. Para llegar al restaurante, cuadramos el auto cerca del muelle 25, entramos al parque por ese lado y caminamos un rato. Estuvimos allí casi al atardecer, así que la caminata era perfecta, con hermosas vistas al río Hudson. City Vineyard se encuentra justo debajo del letrero Pier 26, por lo que a medida que te acercas no te puedes perder la señal.
At arrival we saw a small line, we didn’t understand why at first because we saw plenty of tables empty. However, when it was our turn, we realized why. The front desk lady took our temperatures, asked us for our full names and phone numbers, she said this was part of the biosafety protocol, if someone got sick at the restaurant with Covid, they would alert everyone who could have been exposed. I thought that was clever and gave us peace of mind.
Al llegar vimos una pequeña línea, no entendíamos por qué al principio porque vimos un montón de mesas vacías. Sin embargo, cuando era nuestro turno, nos dimos cuenta de por qué. La señorita de recepción tomó nuestras temperaturas, nos preguntó por nuestros nombres completos y números de teléfono, dijo que esto era parte del protocolo de bioseguridad, si alguien se enfermaba en el restaurante con Covid, que alertaría a todos los que podrían haber sido expuestos. Pensé que era inteligente y nos dio tranquilidad.
There were several tables available and we chose the one we felt more comfortable with. Once seated, we were promptly welcomed by our server. The food menu is small but it has variety, from salads, sandwiches, tacos to charcuterie and cheese platters. The wine list is diverse, I mean it’s their specialty! They also have a full bar and several beer options, including local and artisanal ones.
Había varias mesas disponibles y elegimos con la que nos sentimos más cómodos. Una vez sentados, nuestra mesera nos atendió rápidamente. El menú de comida es pequeño, pero tiene variedad, desde ensaladas, sándwiches, tacos hasta embutidos y platos de queso. La carta de vinos es diversa, ¡es su especialidad! También tienen un bar completo y varias opciones de cerveza, que incluyen locales y artesanales.
The ordered mac and cheese with bacon, short rib tacos and chicken sandwich. The food was good, especially the sandwich and the tacos. The drinks were served in small cups but they were tasty. Price is average for a restaurant in the city with nice views. The views definitely make it worth the treat! And a big plus for us was that Tiki’s presence was never an inconvenience. We brought her water and food bowl and she was seated with us with no issues.
Ordenamos macarrones con queso y tocino, tacos de costillas al bbq y sándwich de pollo. La comida era buena, especialmente el sándwich y los tacos. Los tragos se sirven en vasos pequeños, pero estaban ricos. El precio es regular, normal para un restaurante en la ciudad con bonitas vistas. Las vistas definitivamente hacen que valga la pena el costo. Y una gran ventaja para nosotros fue que la presencia de Tiki nunca fue un inconveniente. Trajimos su agua y un tazón de comida y ella estaba sentada con nosotros sin problemas.
As the time progressed, it got crowder but since the tables were properly distanced from one another, it wasn’t an issue for us. We saw the beautiful sunset and then it got dark, there’s no much lighting in their outdoor area but we had the beautiful Freedom Tower lighting up the sky.
A medida que el tiempo avanzaba, se empezó a llenar, pero como las mesas estaban debidamente alejadas unas de otras, no nos incomodaba. Vimos la hermosa puesta de sol y luego se oscureció, no hay mucha iluminación en el área al aire libre, pero teníamos la hermosa Freedom Tower iluminando el cielo.
